Japan Association for Refugees

Japan Association for Refugees

Group Overview

Japan Association for Refugees (JAR) was established in September, 1999.Our mission is to ensure that all refugees who flee from their countries to Japan will be saved and settled down with safety. JAR provides legal assistance aiming for recognition of refugee status and social assistance such as medical care, meal, and housing, for asylum-seekers and refugees. JAR also provides community-based services and job placement assistance. In addition to the direct support services mentioned above, JAR actively works on advocacy and networking to promote institutional reform, as well as awareness raising. In 2016 JAR provided consultations to about 720 people from 70 different countries. JAR works as a partner under contract with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR).
