Group Overview

Meguro International Friendship Association was founded by Meguro City on Dec.1,1992. It is a public interest incorporated foundation as of Apr.1,2012 onward. It functions as a base of international friendship in Meguro City, in close association with volunteers, international students, embassies, and other related organizations.

●Interpreation / Translation

Volunteers registered as members of MIFA visit municipal facilities other than Meguro City Office Complex and do interpretation for non-Japanese residents who are unable to communicate in Japanese and thus unable to enjoy administrative services or participation in municipal events. They also do translation of administrative documents into multiple languages for such non-Japanese residents

●Linguistic Support for Non-Japanese (Japanese Conversation Salon)

Non-Japanese elementary learners of Japanese are provided with opportunities to brush up their skills to communicate in Japanese through one-on-one conversation with Japanese volunteers. Non-Japanese learners are expected to get to know Japanese culture and making of Japanese societies from their Japanese counterparts who in return learn cultural and societal characteristics of countries their non-native counterparts are from.
