OMIKOSHI OMATSURI PARTY

Group Overview
We aim for expats to understand Japan by helping them to experience its culture and deepen their interaction with Japanese people. Since 1993, we have been organizing an international mikoshi (portable shrine) carrying event at a matsuri (festival), which is part of Japanese traditional culture. We hope that, for both expats and Japanese, mikoshi carrying serves as a communication tool, helping foster mutual understanding and nurturing better relationships among people living in the same neighborhood.
Organization's PR Message
very year, expats and Japanese together carry a mikoshi and parade around the west exit of Ikebukuro station. To date, people from 15 countries have donned festival outfits to carry the portable shrine. Between 150 and 200 participants from inside and outside the City join each year.
